Peccioverardi was located in the Middle Ages on the South-East side of the city walls of Cortona. Very important is Via Nazionale, the street called by citizens “Rugapiana”.
Via Dardano and via Benedetti decided to gather in one single Association to create the current Quarter of S. Andrea.The church of S. Andrea was destroyed and replaced by theatre Signorelli.
It is called also Quartier of holy people for his churches: S. Francesco, S. Nicolò, S. Cristoforo. It is extended in upper part of the hill, it dominates the Val di Chiana from Porta Montanina.
The quarter of S. Maria derives its name from the homonym neighbourhood. It was located in front of the entrance gateway of via Roma, which was also called “Porta del Calle”.
Defined as “Growing Church of Cortona”, it has always promoted many events wishing to protect the civil and religious traditions, Saint Vincent Martyr from Cortona and Fra Ugolino Zefferini are the patron saints of this quarter.
The city of Cortona is divided in 5 quartiers
